ARTIMUS

Previosly Exhibited in;

Contemporary lstanbul Bloom Fair, 2023

El Turco, East Hampton NYC, 2023

Minimal surfaces are an important concept in architecture and design, as they represent the most efficient way of enclosing space with a given surface area. These surfaces are characterized by having the minimum possible surface area for a given boundary. lmagine stretching a rubber sheet over a curved surface, like a ball. The rubber sheet will try to minimize its surface area, which is why it will bulge out in the middle and be taut at the edges. This is similar to the way a soap film behaves, as it tries to minimize its surface tension by spreading out evenly. It is here in the power of natural forms that the Artimus Sculpture by Gokhan Avcioglu with its biophilic forms for public sculpture for Easthampton creates a new idea of art. lnspired by the Ancient Lydian God, Artimus, the Goddess of nature, childbirth and wildlife, this Sculpture with innovative minimal surface forms unified a fundamental concept in art, architecture and design, and their application can lead to more meaningful public sculpture in tune with nature and natural settings.
