Gökhan Avcıoğlu

Gokhan Avcioglu was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1961. Gokhan Avcioglu completed his education in KSU/BA in Architecture. He is the principal and founder of GAD in Istanbul, established in 1994.

Among his projects are office buildings, public spaces, commercial spaces and residences in Istanbul, Bodrum, New Jersey, Washington DC, Virginia and Connecticut. Among his most recent award winning projects are Media City, AKH KNDU Villas, KUUM Hotel and Residences, Pınar Logistics Centre, Fish Market and Trump Cadde. A number of his projects have been short-listed for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, including two projects in Kadikoy Park, completed in 1998 and 2004, Yalova Elyaf completed in 2001, and Esma Sultan completed in 2005. Recent awards include 2017 WAFX Smart City Prize, 2017 The American Architecture Prize, 2017 AR Future Projects Awards, Jeu d’Esprit Prize, 2015 Green Good Design, 2014 German Iconic Awards.

Gokhan Avcioglu has been recognized by a number of different publications, including Wallpaper, Surface, City Magazine, NY Times, The New York Post, Transforming Cities - Urban Interventions in Public Cities, Braun Malls and Department stores, Archtekturfuehrer Istanbul, Gestalten Lets go out, Monocle, Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, plus design books such as World Houses Now, Urban Houses and Cafes, Restaurants and Bars, Atlas of Contemporary Architecture, Modern Interiors - Cool Restaurants in Istanbul. Gokhan has also been featured in TV programs, including BBC & Channel 4.Since 2001, Mr. Avcioglu has been conducting studios and seminars at the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris, Yildiz Technical University and Istanbul Technical University.

Gokhan Avcioglu is a member of AIA New York Chapter, Chamber of Architects Turkey.


Ozan Ertug

Ozan Ertug (born 12 June 1981, Mersin) is an Istanbul based architect. In 2006, he graduated from the YTU Faculty of Architecture. In 2010, he became a partner of GAD Architecture. In 2011, he co-founded GADLabs, a research and development branch inside GAD. Specialized in computational design, he mainly worked on intelligent manufacturing technologies and interactive space manipulation, techniques involve merging human interaction and software to form an autonomous design and construction documentation process.
In 2018 he co-founded an ecological practice that conducts ecological and sustainable construction research and applications in the rural settlements. As of 2020, he continues his research and practice under the GAD Foundation and GAD Architecture

Aysu Acar


Alpaslan Ataman

A special contributor to the GAD office is Alpaslan Ataman. Born in 1944, he graduated
from the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in 1966. He directed
numerous architectural and urban projects in Turkey, the UK and the USA. Between 1980 -1983, he assisted in various projects and publications run by Sedad Hakkı Eldem, like The Turkish House – the Ottoman Period [3 volumes] and Bogazici Yalilari (The Yalis of the Bosphorus) [2 volumes]. He works and carries out hisresearch as a free lance architect and collaborates on many of GAD’s projects. His knowledge and teachings on conceptual approach on urban scale public architecture play an important role in the development of modern buildings.

Kemal Arda Alkin

Kemal Arda Alkin received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Bilkent University in 2018. He carried on his education on Architecture and Urbanism in London at the Architectural Association School of Architecture studying the Master of Architecture and Urbanism (AADRL) Programme. His research interests gravitate around Generative Design, Parametric Design, Digital Design, Iterative Design, and the evolution of technology through Robotic Fabrication. Computational experiments throughout his masters have shaped his methodology in a way to explore new horizons and challenge the metaphysical space of architecture.

Kemal Arda Alkin started to work in GAD Architecture by the year 2020.
